Re-engineered toothed clutch design improves efficiency by eliminating component

SG Transmission has manufactured a bearing mounted toothed clutch, with stationary field, for use within a right angle gearbox.

Specialising in the modification of SUVs and vans to improve accessibility for wheelchair use, the customer supplied the design for a toothed clutch to operate in the motorisation of the sliding door.

Identifying a potential cost saving, SG Transmission worked with the customer to streamline the design and remove the requirement for the existing adaptor sleeve. Originally a parallel bore with key as standard, the team re-engineered the design to include a ‘D’ drive which allowed the clutch to be connected directly to the motor. The removal of the additional element provided the customer with both a cost and time saving during manufacture, as well as improved performance and durability.

SG Transmission is now working on a Mark II design, providing design and manufacturing expertise to the customer to guarantee the optimal engineered solution.

As experts in electromagnetic clutches and brakes, our design team can provide early design support tailored to your project requirements, through the optimisation of an existing design for manufacture or through the development of a bespoke solution.
