Stainless steel permanent magnet brake provides solution for medical sector

SG Transmission has supplied a set of Ø60mm permanent magnet brakes manufactured from solenoid quality stainless steel for use within the medical sector.

The challenge: Due to the humid climate, the existing brakes of a medical application were found to be creating an oxidising dust and creating noise. This presented a problem during use in a medical environment, risking contamination and creating an unpleasant patient experience.

The solution: Following research and development by the engineering team at SG Transmission, a highly precise permanent magnet brake was developed using stainless steel. The enhanced material properties eliminated the oxidisation, while the 12 Nm torque exceeded the client expectation for such a small envelope.
